The New Year's Day holiday marked the first vacation period since Hainan Free Trade Port implemented the offshore closure policy. Fueled by a tourism boom and the new offshore duty-free shopping policy, Hainan's consumer market got off to a flying start in the new year. Among the highlights, the total offshore duty-free shopping sales reached 712 million yuan.

During the holiday, major duty-free operators in Hainan rolled out a diverse range of promotional campaigns. These included threshold-based discounts in conjunction with government-issued consumer vouchers, as well as exclusive brand subsidies and bonus point programs. New product categories such as micro-drones and electronic guitars emerged as top choices among young shoppers.

Additionally, the policy allowing both offshore and departing international travelers to enjoy offshore duty-free shopping privileges has attracted a growing number of foreign tourists to make purchases.

 

According to statistics, from January 1st to 3rd, Haikou Customs supervised the sales of 442,000 pieces of offshore duty-free goods, representing a year-on-year increase of 52.4%. The number of shoppers hit 83,500, up 60.6% year on year, while the total sales volume surged 128.9% year on year to 712 million yuan.
