Tangshan is the birthplace of China's architectural and sanitary ceramics. Since the establishment of Qixin Porcelain Factory in 1914, which produced China's first fully vitrified sanitary ware, Tangshan has embarked on a century-long journey of glory in this field.
From its inception to the late 1980s, Tangshan maintained a dominant position in China's architectural and sanitary ceramics industry for a long time. For decades, it led the nation across comprehensive indicators including production scale, product variety, technological level and market share, with no other region able to match it. Among its offerings, the "Eight Essential Sanitary Ceramic Items" from Tangshan served as the standard configuration for construction projects nationwide for many years. In 1959, to mark the 10th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, all the interior and exterior wall tiles and sanitary ware used in Beijing's Ten Great Buildings were supplied by Tangshan.
The 1980s witnessed an accelerated development phase for Tangshan's architectural and sanitary ceramics industry. In addition to the existing ceramic factories and architectural ceramics manufacturers, a number of new large-scale enterprises emerged, such as Sanitary Ceramics Factory and Jianhua Ceramics Factory.
Tangshan also excelled in terms of product quality. After the launch of national quality evaluations in 1978, Tangshan's sanitary ceramics claimed the top spot in six consecutive national inter-industry quality inspections, while its glazed wall tiles ranked first five times. Boasting the advantages of a complete product range, high output, superior quality and competitive prices, Tangshan became one of only two sanitary ceramics exporters in China, earning an excellent reputation in both domestic and international markets.
This century-long leadership in the industry cannot be separated from the contributions of a large number of early enterprise management personnel and technical workers. They regarded running enterprises well as a continuation of the revolutionary cause, and promoted the sustainable development of Tangshan's architectural and sanitary ceramics industry with a sense of responsibility comparable to that of the military industry, creating a miracle in the industrial history of China and even the world.
