Tangshan ceramics embarked on its export journey in 1956. By the 1960s, it had developed into the largest ceramic export base in northern China, securing a pivotal position in the domestic market.

During the planned economy era, ceramic exports were exclusively managed by national foreign trade authorities. Enterprises had no decision-making power over the acquisition of export orders, order volumes, or product pricing. Under this system, the operational efficiency of export-oriented enterprises was entirely subject to the foreign trade mechanism, forcing them to passively accept profits and losses.

In 1988, Tangshan Ceramic Industry Corporation obtained the autonomy in export operations and promptly established an Import and Export Department. Starting from 1990, this department gradually grew into the most competent foreign trade institution in Tangshan, taking on various import and export agency services for non-ceramic industries over the years.

As the leader of China's Northern Porcelain Capital, Tangshan ceramics already enjoyed extensive influence in the international market. The acquisition of foreign trade autonomy further added wings to its development, quickly making it a focal point for international ceramic traders. Consequently, its import and export business experienced rapid growth with increasingly frequent trade exchanges. This not only made indelible contributions to the robust development of Tangshan ceramics in the 1990s but also further consolidated its standing in both domestic and international ceramic markets.
